Okay-pop has spent years perfecting the artwork of wanting excellent. However a brand new era of Okay-rap teams, together with CORTIS, LNGSHOT, and now WAYF BOYS, appear more and more fascinated about what occurs whenever you loosen the tie, scuff up the sides, and let the artists be rather less behaved. The outcomes are freer, much less manicured, and refreshingly invested in the concept that character is perhaps price greater than polish.
At KOOM Stay in New York Metropolis, WAYF BOYS appeared at Terminal 5 on a invoice alongside 1VERSE, XngHan&Soul, DAYOUNG, and Santos Bravos. The group debuted in August, that means their discography remains to be within the early phases of turning into a discography. However the place recorded materials was restricted, enthusiasm was not. WAYF BOYS got here ready to bop, yell, and appeal with each minute allotted to their set.
The efficiency was high-energy, however the group understood {that a} live performance isn’t just a chance to display they’ve mastered choreography, but in addition a chance to make a room stuffed with strangers really feel personally concerned. WAYF BOYS stored the group engaged, but in addition took time to interrupt issues up with impromptu acappella performances of beloved songs, giving particular person members an opportunity to indicate off their spectacular voices and personalities.
After which, in a real post-Jay Park Okay-rap transfer, two members took their shirts off, elevating the temperature so appropriately for a venue within the coronary heart of Hell’s Kitchen.
WAYF BOYS are nonetheless constructing their catalog, however KOOM Stay supplied an encouraging glimpse of what they may develop into. Their willingness to experiment, join with the group, and let every member’s character come by way of suggests a bunch with loads of room to develop. If their debut months are any indication, WAYF BOYS have the elements to show that early promise into one thing distinctly their very own. For now, they’re making a case for the pleasures of watching a bunch determine itself out in actual time and having just a little enjoyable alongside the best way.
